Today’s post is an 1874 illustration of an Indian rhinoceros also known as the greater one-horned rhino – scientific name: Rhinoceros unicornis.
This is the unaltered image of the Indian Rhinoceros which dates back to 1874:
This is my cleaned up version of the rhino that I edited in Photoshop:
- The Indian rhino grows up to 6 feet tall and weighs between 4000 and 6000 pounds.
- The rhino’s upper legs and shoulders are covered in wart-like bumps; it also has very little body hair.
- Both male and female Indian rhinos have a single horn made of keratin; the horn is not present on newborn offspring and appears after around six years.
