A delve into my personal collection of goodies today with a vintage postcard of Gladys Cooper (1888-1971) who was an English actress with career that stretched over seven decades!
The postcard of Gladys Cooper is from the early 1900’s; Looking at the franking on the back of the postcard, it could be 1922 but it’s really not clear.
This is an original scan of the postcard:
This is the back of the postcard which was sent to an address in Wigan:
The small print on the bottom left-hand side reads: This is a HAND-PAINTED REAL PHOTOGRAPH of a British beauty.
This is a cleaned up versions of Gladys:
- Gladys Cooper began her career on the stage as a teenager in Edwardian musical comedy and pantomime.
- Cooper played many roles; she was nominated for three Academy Awards: Now, Voyager (1942), The Song of Bernadette (1943), and My Fair Lady (1964).
- Gladys died from pneumonia at the age of 82 in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.
The video below is a clip showing Cooper and Bette Davis in the film Now, Voyager:
